85th Annual Academy Awards Fashion Recap

What a night!

Did you tune into the 85th Annual Academy Awards? The ceremony saw a lot of expected wins, some big surprises and a new host – comedian and Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, who I thought did a great job last night.

As expected, Daniel Day Lewis took home the “Best Actor” Oscar for “Lincoln,” while the talented Jennifer Lawrence won “Best Actress” for Silver Linings Playbook. Christoph Waltz and Anne Hathaway won in the “Supporting” categories, while Django Unchained writer/director Quentin Tarantino took home the “Best Original Screenplay” Oscar – a well-deserved win in my opinion. 🙂

How wonderful was Adele’s performance of “Skyfall?!” Her riveting performance of the hit from the latest James Bond film was followed by a big win for “Best Song.” And despite not receiving a nomination in the “Best Director” category, (that award went to Life Of Pi director Ang Lee), Ben Affleck’s film Argo took home the gold, with a win for Best Picture. I absolutely loved that First Lady Michelle Obama presented the final award of the evening via satellite!

Some other standout moments of the evening included a performance by the cast of Les Miserables; Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson’s jaw-dropping performance of, “And I Am Telling You” from Dreamgirls; a reunion of the cast of Chicago; and surprise song and dance numbers with Charlize Theron, Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe, and Joseph Gordon Levitt during the opening of the ceremony.

And then we come to the Red Carpet fashion. 🙂 There were SO many fabulous looks at last night’s awards – it was hard to narrow it down! I loved Jennifer Lawrence’s Dior Haute Couture gown, and absolutely fell in love with Naomi Watt’s glamorous asymmetrical dress from Armani Prive. Here are my top picks for “Best Dressed” of the evening; along with some similar, fashion-forward and affordable footwear choices you can rock for your next special occasion!

Academy Awards “Best Dressed” Picks

Ben Affleck

Can I just say how glad I am Argo won Best Picture?” I’m a huge Quentin Tarantino fan, and really loved Django Unchained,” but there is just something about routing for the underdog. Affleck won the “Best Original Screenplay” award 15 years ago for Good Will Hunting, and admitted last night during his acceptance speech, that he wasn’t sure he’d ever be back up on the stage accepting an award. Argo really is a great film, and even though he was overlooked in the directing category, this big win was well deserved.

And how handsome did he look last night? 🙂 Affleck wore head-to-toe Gucci, and really was the epitome classic “Old Hollywood” style.

If you have a special occasion coming up, and are looking for a classic pair of patent leather oxfords similar to Affleck’s, here’s a great shoe. You get the luxurious look of a tailored dress shoe, but without the high-end designer price – it’s only $97.95! You’ll definitely look and feel the part of a star in this style!

Kerry Washington

When many actresses opted for “safe” colors on the Red Carpet, the Django Unchained star chose a vibrant coral gown from Miu Miu. I’m in love with the detailed jewel embellishments along the bodice, and in this case, I thought her choice to go with a matching coral pointed-toe pump was a great choice. Gorgeous!

Nina Women’s Besiana Pump

Are you a fashionista who wants to rock a bold color for your next special occasion? If you like Washington’s coral gown/shoe combo, the Besiana from Nina is an excellent look for less. Soft satin fabric is adorned with all-over jewel accents for a added dose of glitz. So elegant!

Zoe Saldana

The Star Trek star’s choice at last night’s awards proved you don’t have to be afraid of embellishments! Her Alexis Mabille gown featured lace and floral embellishments along the bodice, a sleek belt and a flowing skirt with mixture of black and white fabric. Saldana finished her look with a buckle-accented black peep toe pump. I have one word for her look: FIERCE!

Jessica Chastain

Her performance in Zero Dark Thirty was absolutely flawless. And Chastain’s Red Carpet look last night was as well. My jaw dropped when she stepped foot onto the Carpet last night in a sparkling champagne strapless gown from Armani Prive. Paired with the classic Hollywood waves, the red lip and matching nude/champagne peep toe pumps, Chastain’s look definitely wins my vote for “Best Dressed.”
