Celeb Style Alert: Anne Hathaway

The 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were held last night in Los Angeles. The SAG awards recognize the best actors and actresses of film and television – and this year’s show had its share of surprising wins, jaw-dropping moments (namely Jennifer Lawrence’s apparent “wardrobe malfunction”) and a great number of fashion standouts.

In the television categories, Claire Danes took home her second SAG award, this year for “Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama” for her role on Homeland. Breaking Bad star Brian Cranston won “Best Actor” honors; while both Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin took home “Outstanding Performance in a Comedy Series” awards for their work on the hit show 30 Rock.

As expected, Daniel Day Lewis took home top honors for his performance in Lincoln, and Jennifer Lawrence won “Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role,” for Silver Linings Playbook. In the “Supporting Role” categories, veteran actor Tommy Lee Jones won for his performance as Thaddeus Stevens in Lincoln, while Anne Hathaway won for Les Miserables.

I know I feature her a lot on our blog, but I just think that when it comes to taking risks, and finding new ways to stand out on the red carpet, Anne Hathaway is a style star through-and-through. And maybe part of the reason I think she has such a great sense of style is that we share the same pixie cut hairstyle… but I digress. 🙂

Last night Hathaway wore a black dress from the Giambattista Valli Haute Couture collection, featuring an embroidered corset top with mesh capped sleeves and a high/low tulle skirt. While critics agree that her performance as the doomed Fantine in Les Miserables was absolutely amazing, they have been giving mixed reviews on her attire last night. I think the look is bold and fearless – Hathaway’s not afraid to wear edgy ensembles, and I totally think she pulled off this look flawlessly.

I also really loved that she chose to pair the dress with a black peep toe pump. I think a strappy sandal would’ve been a little “too much” and I’m thinking a pointed or almond closed-toe pump wouldn’t have looked right either. This pump with a little bit of pleated/crisscrossed detail on the vamp gives the dress a bit of balance and keeps the look from going over the top.

If you have a special occasion coming up and you’re still looking for the right pair of black peep toe pumps, here’s a couple “looks for less” to suit your style!
