Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

The whole world is gearing up for the next Harry Potter movie – at least that’s how it seems to me. Sometimes I feel like the young wizards are everywhere I turn! From interviews on the filming of the final two films, to movie trailers, to my friends’ own plans for viewing Part One of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, I’m on Harry Potter overload!

For all intents and purposes, it’s safe to say this film is going to rock the box office when it opens on Friday. It’s coming out at what is traditionally a great time for more family oriented movies. It has the largely unprecedented success of the previous six Harry Potter movies to build off of. Add to this the fact that it is a part of the best-selling book series of all time, and it’s hard not to realize that Warner Brothers and JK Rowling have created the perfect atmosphere in which to release the first part of the Harry Potter cinematic conclusion.

Perhaps most important of all for true fans, it has earned very favorable reviews. Entertainment Weekly is calling it ‘the most cinematically rewarding chapter yet” and gives the film an A- grade. Roger Ebert makes a fair comment in writing that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is ‘a handsome and sometimes harrowing film’ which ‘will be completely unintelligible for anyone coming to the series for the first time.’ I can’t imagine stepping into the last book of a seven part series and trying to understand the nuances of its characters and events. With all the details normally lost in transition from book to movie, this is probably even more pronounced in films. Lesson to be learned: be sure to read the books or watch the first six movies before hitting the box office this weekend!

I have to add it – Emma Watson’s dress in the picture above is absolutely stunning! I do think a pair of red pumps might have been just the ticket to give her look an extra pop of color – especially when paired with her red corsage.
