Many young designers dream of starting their own successful fashion line, and seeing their original pieces on the runway. Last night, the winners of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and Vogue 2013 endowment were able to get that much closer to achieving this dream.

The CFDA and Vogue have created an endowment to support the next generation of American fashion designers. The purpose is to give significant financial awards to one or more aspiring designers, and provide the mentoring necessary to help them get their business off and running. Award recipients are selected by a committee of industry experts, based on the exceptional talent they have already demonstrated in fashion design, and their capacity for future distinction in the fashion industry. Each year the CFDA/Vogue selects three emerging fashion designers who receive:

  1. Business mentoring from an established team of fashion industry professionals, in areas such as business planning, marketing, sourcing, production, exporting, etc.
  2. One winner receives $300,000 and two runners up receive $100,000 each. This is to encourage and enable the recipients to pursue his/her own independent design plan. (CFDA)

The Second runner-up award went to Marc Alary or Mark Alary Jewelry; first runner-up was designer Juan Carlos Obando. First prize went to the Public School’s Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osorne. I’m sure you will see their name in the upcoming years. (Vogue.com)

In addition to the finalists, celebrities including Ashley Olson, Vanessa Hudgens, and some of the fashion world’s elite were also in attendance. The keynote speaker of the night was designer Tom Ford. Ford was introduced by a dear friend, actress Julianne Moore. (Fashionologie)

With all this excitement going on what do you possibly wear? Julianne Moore wore a gorgeous red sparkly dress designed by her great friend, and the keynote, Tom Ford. She had a nice tight bun in her hair, with a pair of black strappy pumps to match. Tom Ford wore a designer suit with nicely polished black dress shoes.
