Affordable Business Style for Young Adults
We don’t get to see his crooked nose on the silver screen very often anymore, but when we do we’re always laughing. Owen Wilson is back, starring with Vince Vaughn in the new summer comedy “The Internship.” The same guys that won the MTV Movie Award for Best On-Screen Duo for their performances in “Wedding Crashers” back in 2005 have teamed-up again.
Naturally, the release of the movie coincides with all of the “real” summer internships beginning across the country. While not many students are interning at Google like Owen and Vince are in the movie, plenty have found a temporary home at a company where they can gain some real life working experience, a few references and hopefully a little cash.
For me, during my first internship, the challenge wasn’t whether or not I’d be able to find my way around the office or if I’d get along with my co-workers. Honestly, I had more of a challenge trying to find something professional to wear every day of the week. There are only so many times you can wear the same polo, khakis and dress shoes before your colleagues begin to wonder if the washer in your apartment complex is broken.
Oh, yeah, and then there’s the other issue: students aren’t typically made of money.
So I decided to put together a list of affordable business casual shoes for all the young adults out there trying to dress to impress during the work week.
Brutini Men’s Oxford
Brown or black—doesn’t matter. I love this shoe because it’s simple and sleek, and it reassures everyone at the office that you’re not wearing the same pair of dress shoes you did to junior prom (guilty of that my first summer).

Here’s a simple one for the ladies, too. You can’t go wrong with a simple shoe, especially when it looks this nice. It’s one you can wear to dinner after work and not feel completely overdressed.
Brutini Men’s Slip-On
For those young adults out there who have yet to learn how to tie their shoes or just like the no-lace look, you can’t get a better deal than this. I didn’t intend to pick out two Brutinis. I usually try to recommend a couple of different brands, but I liked them too much not to mention them. They look good, and you’ll have enough money left over to eat more than Ramen during the week.
Mootsies Tootsies Women’s Tracer Pump
I’m actually a really big fan of the peep-toe. In some business environments they might be a little too casual, but in others you can look professional and yet still give everyone a sneak peek of the pedicure you worked so hard on. Once again, I know I picked a second shoe from the same brand, but hey . . . what can I say . . . some brands are just a little more affordable than others for people paying both rent and tuition.
